Les Stroud Interview: Shark Week, Safety Crew & His opinion on Bear Grylls

Survivorman Les Stroud swam with sharks for shark week and comments on Bear Grylls and the controversy behind him staying in hotels.

Les Stroud makes it very clear that in order to film his show Survivorman everyone must follow his rules, and make it exactly how he wants it to be.  Like a professional ball player Les Stroud has to be “in the zone” and does not want his safety crew ruining that.  Survivorman is filmed by Les Stroud and no camera crew, the shots you see him walking into the distance he has to walk back and get the camera equipment!! Les Stroud is not only a wilderness survival expert but an awesome camera man and producer.

I watch both Survivorman and Man vs Wild. Even before all this info about Bear Grylls came out I was always rolling my eyes when I watched Man vs Wild. He does so many things that one just does NOT do in any survival situation ( running down a rock slide, climbing sheer cliffs when there are other options, even if it adds an hour to your travel )where even a broken ankle could spell death. I watched Grylls ( in grizzly territory) scramble from his shelter to run through the woods in the dark of night supposedly because some large animal, possibly a bear was stalking around his camp. Then he stops to explain how well he can see in the dark as his eyes become adjusted to the darkness WHILE the woods around him are bleached out in light from his camera crew. That same crew had to scamper through the woods in the dark with him to escape from that possible grizzly. What total folly. In that same episode, Bear almost tears up explaining that the toughest part is the “solitude”, that he’s got nobody to talk to for encouragement. Again WHILE his camera crew is beside him. I wouldn’t take antything away from his accomplishments, but as far as a survival show goes, Man vs Wild is B.S.

  2. Da GodFahja says:

You know what’s B.S? Your opinion. Man vs. Wild is better than survivorman, and if u payed attention when Bear said the toughest part was being alone, he was holding a camere. You are a jackass shut the F*** up u moron. get the facts straight first before u open your damn mouth, jeez.

  3. THE MORON says:

    both shows are good. period.

  4. scagnetti says:

Da GodFahja, you’re obviously a braindead buttwipe. Bear Grylls and his “show” Man vs Wild is purely manufactured entertainment for ‘tweens like yourself. It has nothing to do with real life survival. Your defense & obsession with Bear Grylls seems a little gay.

  5. Penelope_Peabody says:

I have too agree….Bear Grylls is a putz. I actually saw a episode of Man vs Wild where Bear Grylls pretended to fall into some rapids and he’s flaying about and suddenly he has a life jacket under his shirt!!

It clearly shows him wearing a life jacket hidden by his shirt while in the water and when he gets out of the rapids he’s all wet, breathing hard but has no life jacket.

    How fake can you get….

What a disappointment that guy is!

  6. Den says:

Bear Grylls is way way out of our league, what he is doing is great, but you know they both Bear and Les are good guys in their own ways.

  7. Jorge says:

I think both shows are good and certainly entertaining. I would agree, though, that Survivorman tends to be more realistic. It certainly follows basic rules of survial closer than what you see on Man vs Wild.

PS…Whats the deal with that Godfahja guy? He’s throwing an e-tantrum because someone is criticizing a TV show?
