If you want to prevent yourself from being a victim of credit card fraud or stolen identity you should be careful where you enter your credit card online.  You should only enter your credit card where you see a LOCK in the browswer and try to stick to shopping with companies that have been around for a while and/or someone else has shopped with them previously. Another way to protect yourself is to get a pre-paid Visa Gift Card and use that for making ALL your online purchases.  This provides the best protection because if someone gets ahold of it you don’t have much money on it to worry about and they can’t go wild and rack up huge bills.  This is not really a “survival” tip moreso a way to survive online safely.

Do not rely on your cell phone to always have betteries or to always be in working order.  I know many people that don’t know their relatives phone numbers because their cell phone stores it for them.  In a survival situation you may need to call a family member or friend from a pay phone or a rescuer may need their number. Survival Tip March 5th 2007

If you plan a day-long drive you should bring enough water for each person to last a day or two depending how far you will be driving away from town.  If you are traveling through the mountains in winter or long back roads you should be more prepared than if you are driving to school. (hint: toss in some blankets)
